ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Hi, my name is Mónica Villaverde. Having loved visual arts and design from an early age, I have always sought to continue to learn and evolve as an artist. In 2004, I graduated on the honors list with the title Magna Cum Laude. That summer I was accepted into the Masters Communications Design program at the Pratt institute where I received recognition for both my presentation of the project “Book Design” on Wedding Rituals Around the World and my thesis project, the latter being chosen to be a part of annual exhibition The Pratt Show. This prestigious exhibition in the Manhattan Center was an eye opening experience in diversity, innovation and the tendencies to the future of design. It also exposed me to future patrons, art collectors and aficionados, and the general public.
I spent the next 8 years in the creative field in New York which provided the opportunities and work experiences that helped me continue to develop as an artist and professionally. I had the privilege of serving as a studio designer/art director at the advertising agency Global Hue and worked projects such as Verizon Wireless, Bermuda Tourism Authority, MGM Grand Detroit, and the Census 2010 for the hispanic market. I also worked as a packaging designer of modern kitchen utensils for Oxo International in the Chelsea Market. I continued collaborating as a designer and artistic consultant en New York until 2011 when I decided to return to Puerto Rico in search of new projects. Since then I have worked as a graphic designer, visual artist, professor, and businesswoman. Some of my clients and patrons that I have worked with emphasis on corporate image and publicity are: San Juan Bay National Estuary Program, Catherine’s Gourmet Products, Valija Gitana, Fish & Wildlife Service, McCann Erickson, L'Oreal, GEO-Engineering, Playero P.R., and Casa Yoga.
